SI wins Leeds Apprenticeship Recognition Award

Thursday, 9 February, 2012

We are pleased to announce that Surgical Innovations (SI) was awarded the Medium Employer of the Year at the Leeds Apprenticeship Recognition Awards in recognition of its successful apprenticeship scheme.

The event, which was held at Leeds Civic Hall, celebrates apprentices and the positive impact they have on individuals and businesses.

SI currently has 10 apprentices taking part in the scheme, which sees apprentices participating in 10 week placements in 5 different areas of the business including quality, product development engineering, machine shop, assembly and injection moulding.

At the end of their third year of study, the area which they will work in is selected with input from the apprentices.

SI works closely with local organisations including Leeds City Training and apprentice.org and with local schools to promote apprenticeships in the region, with particular focus on careers fairs and school visits.

The scheme gives apprentices the chance to earn and learn at the same time, as well as gain ‘on-the-job’ skills in a specialist industry. For SI it gives us the opportunity to train apprentices to specialist company standards and help towards combatting the skills shortage throughout manufacturing industry.

We have also been shortlisted in the Best Health Plc category at the 2012 UK Stock Market Awards. The UK Stock Market Awards recognise the success of UK listed businesses over the last twelve months based on a combination of share price, commercial success, balance sheet/financials and the quality of the management.

The winner will be announced on 29th March so we will keep you updated.
